Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday announced guidelines for the regulation of OTT platforms. Javadekar said there are at least 40 OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar (Disney Plus), and hundreds of news content websites. Addressing the media, the Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad said that social media platforms will be classified under two categories – social media intermediaries and significant social media intermediaries – with the latter being subject to greater obligations.
