Water level in Rishiganga lake has reduced by half a feet, scientists still refuse any kind of danger

In Chamoli district, the water level of the lake on Rishiganga in the disaster affected area has reduced by half feet.  With the withdrawal of the lake water in the form of a wide stream, all the government and district administration including relief agencies are feeling relieved.  Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on Monday took feedback from Chief Secretary Om Prakash, a team of scientists studying the lake, through video conferencing.  Scientists have denied any kind of danger from the lake.
The information received on Monday from the debris lake on the Rishiganga river in Chamoli district on February 7 due to the breaking of the glacier, has wiped off the forehead of the central government, state government and all agencies working in the disaster affected areas. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has installed Quick Deployable Antenna (QDA). With this, the lake is being monitored. The disaster management system is also relieved due to the live video of the lake. The team of scientists have not yet given the study report, but have shared the information after inspecting the lake.

Chief Secretary Om Prakash told that the water level of the lake is decreasing. A 300 feet long and eight to nine meters deep lake is seen as a positive sign of less than half a foot of water. The lake is now draining water from a wide stream. The Chief Secretary said that along with finding new avenues for drainage, the existing drainage routes have been widened.

On Tuesday, the drainage mouth will be widened with the help of villagers. Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla also inquired about the situation from the state government, members of the National Disaster Management Authority and representatives of various scientific institutions and a team of scientists visited the lake on Monday. The DRDO told them that there is no threat from the lake at present.
