Sanitizer instead of Polio drops
In a case of gross negligence, 12 children were given drops of sanitizer instead of polio drops in a village in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra. An official told about this on Monday.
An official of the district said that the affected children have been admitted to a government hospital, where their condition is stable. All children were under five years of age. Action will be taken against three health workers for such lapses.
The official said the incident took place at Bhanbora Primary Health Center in Kapasikopari village where a national pulse polio vaccination program is being run for children between one and five years.
Yavatmal Zilla Parishad CEO Srikrishna Panchal said that 12 children under five years of age were given two drops of sanitizer instead of polio drops. The children complained of vomiting and restlessness.
He said that children who were given drops of sanitizer have been admitted to the hospital. The condition of all children is located and is being monitored.
According to preliminary information, a doctor, an Anganwadi worker and an ASHA worker were present at the Primary Health Center at the time of the incident. The investigation has been initiated and the three health workers will be suspended.
